Amsterdam: the evergreens
Amsterdam: the evergreens
Amsterdam as all the cities has its “evergreens” things that won’t never be old-fashioned.
Here is our top of the (more and less known) things you MUST see in Amsterdam:
1. The station
The station will be surely the first image you’ll have of the city.
It’s wonderful and Kappatigremme took a beautiful picture there!
We were enchainted from the beauty of the building, it really has a strong effect.
On the opposite of the station there’s the turism office where you can find every kind of information about Amsterdam.
The station is a cardinal point for public transport because there is the subway station and from there depart almost all buses and trams.
2. Dam square
It’s the main square of the city, we think that in the morning it’s better because it’s full of life and colours.
Around the square there are: the Royal Palace, the M.me Tusseaud and a lot of cafè where you can sit and drink something looking at tourists, artists and citizens rigorously by bike.
3. Waterlooplein fleamarket
A colorful market in wich you can buy souvenirs at low prices, secondhand objects from all over the world, cheese, flowers, bikes and everything you can imagine.
We were there twice, the air of fleamarkets leave us a beautiful memory of all the city we visit.
You can find this market near the metro stop “Waterlooplein” only two stops from the central station.
4. Flowers market
The famous floatin flower market of Amsterdam.
A must-see because is one of the most colorful place of the world, after some minutes walking in the flowers you won’t be able to distinguish clear shapes and colors.
It’s a paradise for the eyes!!
We went there walking from Waterlooplein market, a MAGIC walk through the canals.
5. Crooked houses
In Amsterdam a lot of houses are tilted forward,
on the top of this houses there is a little pulley.
Why?
The habitude of building narrow houses was born because of a tax based on apartments width.
Often the owner of the house had on the ground floor his small store.
Because of houses’ shape it was impossible relocate
or move big packs through the stairs.
With this incline they could take things in the house through the windows.
5. Museums
The most famous museums of the city are really near and they are the Rijksmuseum and the Vang Gogh Museum.
In the first one there’s the biggest collection of Flemish artworks (period 1500-1700), inside there are workarts made from Rembrandt and Vermeer too.
The Van Gogh Museum needs no introductions, we had to choose only one and our love for Van Gogh made the choice for us.
There are three floors full of unbelievable beauty: “The Potato Eaters”, “The sunflowers”, “The Bedroom” and his portraits are only a few of the workarts that left us breathtaking.
Here Pasquale risked life and limb because he was trying to put the camera on a bike’s seat and the owner came running to beat him.
Then we laugh a lot with her and she made us a beautiful photo 🙂
We had enough time to make a visit to Zanse Schans too, here are our suggestions:
